After three years of construction, the heritage tramway on Paseo Baquedano in Iquique finally opened on Sunday 24 October 2004. The two cars were rushed into service in time for the October elections – before the woodwork on tram 2 had been finished. The doubledecker is powered by ten (10) automobile batteries! The author is indebted to Iquique resident Harold Middleton for capturing and supplying most of the images on this website – including all the views on this page.
