Bird-shaped white area is the 'Plano Piloto', the planned city of 1960. Black area is a lake. Gray areas in the west are new 'satellite' towns. The metro runs underground from the bus station ('Rodoviária') at Central to 'Zoológico' station (called 'Integração Asa Sul' on the first map), elsewhere on the surface or in cut. Twenty 4-car trains, 1600 mm/5 ft 3 in gauge, 750 volts 3rd rail. The shops are near the junction at 'Aguas Claras'. Construction began in 1992 but commercial operation did not begin until 24 September 2001. See photos.
